There is no question what a big challenge it is for someone that has suffered a SCI to return to their own home if it has not been adapted.

Jared’s home, as told in “Our Story”, received the necessary make over to ensure accessibility by the outpouring from the community and his family. This effort was led largely by Stambrosky Homes and PJ Dick both of whom are in the Pittsburgh area.

Jared recognized that there are others that need assistance retrofitting their homes after a SCI. The idea Jared had of being able to help others return to an accessible home culminated with the KARA Program. In memory of his wife Kara, the program embodies her mantra of “Share the Love”.

Retrofitting a house can be expensive…..funding even basic remodeling projects can be a large hurdle for many. The KARA Program will provide effective solutions to these impediments.  Applications are now being accepted.

The first three projects that this program will offer are listed below:

  • Provide ramp/accessible entrance into the home
  • Creating wider doorways to allow wheelchair movement throughout the home
  • Installation of an accessible bathroom to include a roll in shower
